Steve Jobs is one of the best entrepreneur and innovators ever lived. He founded Apple which is one the most successful company today. Aside from that, Steve also inspired millions of people through his work and through his philosophy.
3 Inspirational lessons from Steve Jobs
In this article, I’m going to share the 3 Inspirational lessons from Steve Jobs’ commencement speech at Stanford University.
Here it goes.
1. Connecting the dots
As what Jobs shared, he dropped out of college and study calligraphy. He was interested in learning what makes great typography great.
But none of those make seems to matter only after 10 years when they are developing the first Mac computer. He applied the calligraphy techniques he learned before to make Apple fonts and designs stunning. And that perfect design made Apple well-known.
Isn’t funny that what we are doing today doesn’t seem to matter?
Sometimes it feels boring and useless doing things that “doesn’t seem to work today“. But as what Steve told and shared with us, “you cannot connect the dots moving forward, you can only connect them looking backward“.
That is so powerful. Every time I see and hear this quote I’m pumped. It inspires and motivates me that what I’m doing today will surely matter and contribute to my success in the future. I don’t know when and I don’t know how.
But as what Steve added, you have to trust God, your guts, your intuition and of course yourself.
So, if you’re someone down at this time, someone who feels the same, someone feels nothing seems working, someone feels nothing’s gonna happen, think again.
Remember this inspirational lesson from Steve Jobs. Don’t lose hope. In time, you can connect your dots why things happened that way.
2. Love and lost
Steve started Apple in his parent’s garage at age 20 and then grew it to a multi-billion dollar company at age 30.
Sad to say, he was also fired at Apple that time. While Apple’s growing, new leadership diverge and sided against Steve Jobs. He lost Apple. He was down. He failed.
In spite of all these trials, Steve still claimed he “still loves what he do“. Those turning events at Apple didn’t change him. He chose to be positive and look things at a different angle. He treated that losing Apple seems to be one of the best things happened to him.
The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again.
In the next 5 years, he started another company called Next and other one called Pixar. That was also the time he fell in love with the girl who became his wife. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple both Next. And that made Steve back to Apple.
Sometimes life will hit you in the head with a brick, don’t lose faith.
Steve convinced that the only thing that kept him going was he loved what he does. And the advice everyone to find what they love.
You got to find what you love. That’s true for work and for lovers.
You need to do great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you have’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.
These lines hit like a bullet. Words that really move and empower anyone who seeks progress and success about life. Every time I hear this I fly. I get pumped! You should do the same.
And as what Steve said, we can only do great things doing what we love.
You may be experiencing downtime, hardships or maybe getting confused what to do with your life right now.
Remember these lines and keep moving. Don’t give up. Continue doing what you love. This lesson from Steve clearly tells us not to give up and continue looking for what we love.
Don’t give up. Keep looking. Don’t settle. In a matter of time, you’ll find it.
If today were the last day of my life, what I wanna do what I’m about to do today?
Remembering that all be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make big choices in life. Because almost everything, all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment and failure, these things just fall away in the face of death leaving only what is truly important.
Remembering that you’re going to die is the best way I know to avoid trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There’s no reason not to follow your heart.
Death is one of the constant things is this world. No matter who you are, what you are or where you are right now, time will come that you’re going to say goodbye.
As what the quotes above says, we should always strive to do things that are important. Those that matter. Things that help and inspire people. So when our time came to leave this earth, our contributions and legacy will be remembered by present and future generations.
